Project Orbital Welding Manager

Position Overview

Sprint Mechanical is seeking an experienced Orbital Welding Manager to lead orbital welding operations on semiconductor, advanced technology, and mission-critical construction projects. This position is responsible for supervising weld crews, ensuring compliance with project specifications and cleanliness standards, maintaining welding quality, and supporting safe and efficient execution of high-purity piping systems. The ideal candidate has strong experience in orbital welding of stainless steel and high-purity systems, particularly within semiconductor or cleanroom environments. This position operates within highly regulated semiconductor and mission-critical construction environments. The Orbital Welding Manager must maintain strict quality and cleanliness standards while leading teams in fast-paced, technically demanding conditions. Key Responsibilities

   

Production Leadership

  • Full responsibility for orbital welding output
  • Daily/weekly production targets and reporting
  • Crew loading, forecasting, and manpower ramp plans
  • Performance tracking and productivity improvement
  • Schedule adherence and recovery execution

Equipment Development & Optimization

  • Develop and scale orbital welding equipment fleet
  • Evaluate and standardize welding platforms (AMI, Arc Machines, etc.)
  • Establish preventive maintenance and uptime strategies
  • Improve weld parameter libraries and repeatability standards
  • Lead new equipment onboarding and crew training
  • Identify automation and efficiency opportunities
  • Ensure purge systems and tooling meet high-purity standards
  • Maintain equipment readiness aligned with project phase sequencing

Quality & Compliance

  • Enforce WPS, PQR, ASME B31.3 / BPE Compliance
  • Maintain weld mapping, traceability, and documentation control
  • Deliver inspection-ready weld packages
  • Coordinate closely with QA/QC and commissioning teams
  • Support phased turnover strategy
  • Track production and performance metrics



Technology & Software Experience

  •  Familiarity with orbital welding systems (AMI, Polysoude, or equivalent)

 

Preferred Experience & Qualifications

  • 5+years of experience in AMI / Arc Machines orbital welding systems
  • Parameter programming and optimization
  • Purge and gas management systems
  • Equipment fleet management
  • Supervisory or lead experience in mechanical construction
  • Strong knowledge of high-purity stainless steel welding
  • Experience reading isometric drawings and P&IDs
  • Understanding of weld traceability and documentation requirements
  • Experience in semiconductor or data center projects
  • Knowledge of cleanroom protocols
  • OSHA 30 certification
  • Experience with Procore or digital field documentation platforms
