Project Field Buyer

Position Overview

Sprint Mechanical is seeking a highly organized and proactive Field Buyer to support procurement activities for large-scale mechanical construction projects. The Field Buyer will work directly with project management, field supervision, vendors, and suppliers to ensure materials, equipment, tools, and services are procured accurately, competitively, and in accordance with project schedules.

This position plays a critical role in maintaining material availability, controlling costs, tracking purchase orders, and preventing procurement-related impacts to field operations.

Experience supporting semiconductor, data center, advanced manufacturing, or other mission-critical construction projects is strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

Procurement & Purchasing

  • Procure project materials, equipment, tools, consumables, and services in accordance with project requirements

  • Prepare and issue purchase orders and purchase order revisions

  • Obtain and evaluate vendor quotations for pricing, availability, lead times, and commercial requirements

  • Negotiate pricing and delivery terms within assigned authority

  • Verify purchases are properly authorized and coded to the appropriate project and cost code

  • Maintain accurate purchasing records and supporting documentation

Material & Equipment Coordination

  • Coordinate closely with field supervision to identify upcoming material and equipment requirements

  • Monitor material status and long-lead items to support project schedules

  • Expedite critical materials and equipment when necessary

  • Coordinate deliveries with vendors, logistics personnel, warehouse teams, and field supervision

  • Assist in resolving shortages, damaged materials, incorrect shipments, and delivery discrepancies

  • Support rental equipment procurement, tracking, extensions, and returns as required

Vendor & Supplier Management

  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with vendors and suppliers

  • Identify qualified suppliers capable of meeting project requirements

  • Coordinate vendor documentation, quotes, acknowledgments, and delivery commitments

  • Assist with resolving pricing, invoicing, and purchase order discrepancies

  • Monitor supplier performance related to quality, cost, responsiveness, and delivery

Cost & Purchase Order Control

  • Maintain accurate purchase order logs and procurement tracking

  • Monitor committed costs against project budgets

  • Identify potential cost impacts and communicate concerns to project leadership

  • Coordinate purchase order changes resulting from scope revisions or field requirements

  • Support cost controls, change management, and project forecasting activities

  • Assist Accounting with invoice reconciliation and three-way matching when required

Project & Field Coordination

  • Participate in project planning and procurement meetings

  • Maintain communication with Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, Project Controls, and Accounting

  • Review drawings, specifications, bills of material, and material requests as necessary to verify purchasing requirements

  • Assist with material forecasting based on project schedules and field installation priorities

  • Maintain organized documentation and an accurate audit trail for project purchases

Experience & Qualifications

Required

  • 2+ years of purchasing, procurement, materials management, or related construction experience

  • Strong organizational and follow-up skills

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment

  • Strong communication and vendor negotiation skills

  • Working knowledge of purchase orders, procurement documentation, and cost coding

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and related business applications

  • Ability to read and understand basic construction drawings, specifications, and material requirements

Preferred

  • Experience supporting semiconductor and/or data center construction projects

  • Mechanical construction procurement experience involving piping, HVAC, process piping, equipment, valves, fittings, and related materials· Experience with Procore, Ramp, Bluebeam, NetSuite, or similar construction and ERP platforms

  • Experience with material tracking, expediting, and long-lead procurement

  • Experience working in large-scale industrial or mission-critical construction environments

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in both project office and active construction environments

  • Ability to walk jobsites, warehouses, and material laydown areas as required

  • Ability to lift and carry materials or supplies up to 25 lbs

  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors depending on project requirements

Work Environment

The Field Buyer works in a fast-paced construction environment where project priorities and material requirements may change quickly. The position requires close coordination with field operations and the ability to respond promptly to procurement needs while maintaining appropriate purchasing controls, documentation, and cost awareness.
